Jimmy J Pinchak Band – Blue on Arrival
Some of you might know the name Jimmy Jax Pinchak from his roles in ‘The Polar Express’ opposite Tom Hanks, ‘Hostage’ opposite Bruce Willis, and from his maelstrom of television appearances including the critically acclaimed FX show, ‘Over There’, and a recurring role in ‘Men Of A Certain Age’. Most recently Jimmy had the chance to show his range in the Matt Reeves film ‘Let Me In’ and Gavin Hood’s ‘Ender’s Game’, but what most might not know, if that Jimmy is also a fairly accomplished musician.
Beginning on the drums at an early age, Jimmy was soon swept away by the like of the Beatles, the Doors, Cream, and Jimi Hendrix, and soon after he picked up the guitar. After a few previous incarnations, ‘The Silence’ and power trio ‘Jax’, Jimmy has found his feet with the Jimmy J Pinchak Band, and while their latest release has some gaps in the sound, it’s a strong showing of style and talent.
Titled ‘Blue on Arrival’, the new album is nine brash and unpolished tracks of blues revival that shine well above Jimmy’s young age. An album that could be cut straight from the original blues-rock scene, the nine anthems that make up ‘Blue On Arrival’ have all the hallmarks of classics, bristling guitar chords, rattling percussion, and an ingrained sense of melancholy that draws ever jangling note together.
Although some of the standout tracks are covers, there’s no lack of excitement in the five original pieces that Jimmy has put together. With no true discrepancies between the classics and Jimmy’s own work, it’s a marvel to hear old songs renewed with vigor and passion.
It’s easy to see that the soul, heart, and talent all lie within ‘Blues on Arrival’, and it’s just a matter of Jimmy’s experience growing to meet his abilities. A few songs stumble in the wake of their driving sound, but they’re only faint flaws that can easily be missed when in the wraps of Jimmy’s vocals.
A growing success in film, and a shining talent in music, Jimmy uses this new album to show that there’s nearly nothing he can’t achieve, and you have to respect that.

On Saturday, March 5th at 10pm, Jimmy Pinchak and The Blues Company, will perform live at “The Nines” located at 311 College Avenue, Ithaca, New York. The band: Jimmy Pinchak, Noah Pacifici, Teddy Comora, Chris Worden and Curran Sinha.
In recent months, Jimmy has written a bunch of original blues songs and has just completed recording a CD of originals and covers with the newly formed “Jimmy J. Pinchak Band.”

If you think you have heard the name Jimmy Jax Pinchak it may have been from acting. The 18-year-old has been acting since he was a wee one and most notably was in the movie “Enders Game” as Peter Wiggins. He is delving into music and recently released an album called Make It Better that revolves around blues-rock. Although the album is full of predictable rock clichés and Pinchak sounds like he is trying to sound like he is 30 rather than 18 he delivers decent songs. The production is clean, professional and commercially accessible.
The album opens with “There Is More,” which takes advantage of gritty guitars, a sensible verse with a catchy chorus and safe drumming. Pinchak has a deep voice and delivers a convincing performance. “On The Run” is a heavily influenced blues song that sounds like it could from a mix between Eric Clapton and B.B. King and that finds some influence from contemporary hard rock. The best part is the breakdown towards the end of the song and the song showcases some impressive guitar leads and piano. “Make It Better” contains some pretty addictive riffs and proves to be one of the better songs on the album while “Draggin’ the Line” contains excellent vocal harmonies. The female accompaniment sounded great and Pinchak sounded really good on this one because he didn’t sound as if he was trying too hard.
The last song on the album is “Soul Sacrifice” and it was an interesting way to end the album. It is clearly influenced by Santana with its heavy percussive elements and actually contains a drum solo (wasn't expecting this but it was quite enjoyable), bass solo and no vocals. It was quite a departure from the rest of the album.
Pinchak is talented and I admit I don't enjoy many albums from 18-year-olds but there were some solid moments on this album. The main issue Pinchak will have is his audience. He plays rock heavily influenced by blues. The older audience will just pop in artists like Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan and B.B King while people his age and younger will most likely be listening to the likes of Justin Bieber or whatever else high school kids are listening to these days. Pinchak needs to keep at it and develop his own recognizable style; something that is very feasible because of his age

Jimmy Jax Pinchak Band: Make It Better Review
The Jimmy Jax Pinchak Band from Los Angeles emerged onto the blues rock scene this month with their debut album, Make It Better. This five-piece band, fronted by young multi-instrumentalist and actor Jimmy Jax Pinchak, is cutting an interesting path to the sound of their influences, BB King and Eric Clapton. Pinchak, who starred in the recent film Ender’s Game and 2004’s The Polar Express, demonstrates some impressive songwriting capabilities on his debut effort.
Make It Better consists of eight bluesy cuts, recorded with band mates Jacob Delott, Lael Eccard, Nathan Leigh and Stan Nirenberg. The album opener “There Is More” begins with one of Pinchak’s sweeping riffs and develops into a catchy song with a pretty explosive solo. “Tell Me” brings Pinchak’s riffing ability one step further, and his band provides a good backing with the help of an organ and punchy drums.
By the end of the album, it really feels like Pinchak and his band are entering some questionable territory. The track “Draggin’ the Line” sounds a little strained, as Pinchak’s message becomes increasingly repetitive. It’s clear this band has some potential, but they need to rethink their approach on that one. Their cover of Santana’s “Soul Sacrifice” really tests the bands instrumental capabilities, and they do the song some justice, but it feels a little forced. It sounds out of place with the mood of the rest of the album.
Ultimately, Make It Better falls short in the oversaturated market of debut albums to make a real big first impression, but that’s not to say it’s a bad record. The instrumental strength of the band provides some enjoyable breakdowns and guitar work. Pinchak undoubtedly has a bright future ahead of him.

Bought this on a friend’s recommendation and have made it part of my regular rotation. In an era where being hip too often translates to making disposable pop music, it’s refreshing to see a young guy not only embracing a love for classic rock, but having the guitar chops to do it justice. Jimmy Jax Pinchak, the lead guitarist and creative force behind this record, displays a fluid, self assured playing style that is almost eerily beyond his years. His band mates are obviously seasoned pros who create an air tight groove and shine in all the right spots. I enjoyed this record start to finish, but particularly the self penned “Tell me” and psychedelic tinged “There is more”. Great start for a razor sharp guitarist/songwriter. I think he also has a film career.
